Why Tenmoku Teaware?
Each piece of Tenmoku teaware is made from iron-rich porcelain clay and fired using traditional reduction firing techniques at 1300°C (2372°F). The production process exceeds 72 hours, including shaping, glaze application, firing, and natural cooling. Due to the high iron content in both clay and glaze, each piece develops unique crystalline patterns such as hare's fur or oil spots. No two pieces are identical.
The Jian Zhan Tenmoku Teaware traditionally used for tea appreciation. The thick body and high-temperature firing result in durable porcelain. Due to the thick walls, the tenmoku teaware retains heat longer than thin-walled porcelain. At room temperature (25°C / 77°F), hot liquid inside a Jian Zhan cup typically stays warm for 15-30 minutes.
